Applying for the STSC, from profile to exam authorization

You apply for the STSC through a profile on BCSP's website, pay, wait for BCSP's review, and then have one year from approval to take and pass the exam at a Pearson VUE test center (BCSP, as of October 2026). Two points in the order trip people up: accommodations are requested before you schedule, and scheduling goes through BCSP's link, never through a local test center.

Profile to test day, in order

  1. Create a BCSP profile

Sign in to My Profile on bcsp.org and open Applications. BCSP takes applications at any time.

  2. Submit the application and pay

You account for your training hours and experience route and answer the disclosure questions. Check the STSC requirements first: the $120 application fee is nonrefundable (BCSP Complete Guide, June 2026; fee as of October 2026).

  3. Wait for BCSP's review

BCSP reviews an application once it is submitted and paid. It publishes no review time, so leave slack before any job deadline.

  4. Approved: the one-year window opens

From approval you have one year to take and pass the exam. A $100 extension adds one more year; it can be bought once, only in the last 60 days of eligibility (At-A-Glance V.2026.04.01, as of October 2026).

  5. Buy the exam

$185 for one attempt, or bought with the application as the $293 combo (BCSP fee sheet, as of October 2026). An Exam Authorization Letter arrives by email.

  6. Request accommodations, if you need them

Email accommodations@bcsp.org when you buy the exam, before you schedule with Pearson.

  7. Schedule with Pearson VUE

Use the single sign-on link in My Profile. BCSP's guide is blunt: “Do NOT call a local testing center to schedule your appointment.” Seat booking, ID and rescheduling are on STSC exam registration.

If you are about to apply

How long does BCSP take to approve an STSC application?

BCSP does not publish a review time (checked Oct 12, 2026). Apply well ahead of any date you are working toward.

Can the exam be bought together with the application?

Yes. BCSP sells the application and exam together for $293, or the application with the Exam Bundle for $433 (At-A-Glance V.2026.04.01, as of October 2026).

Can I apply before I finish the 30 training hours?

No. BCSP's rule is that applicants “must have completed 30 hours of formal safety and health training” (BCSP Complete Guide, June 2026). Finish the hours, then apply; what counts is on STSC requirements.
