About Tailgate Brief

Tailgate Brief is an independent study resource for the STSC exam, put together for foremen, supervisors and superintendents who want to check what they know against BCSP's STSC7 blueprint.

How a card gets onto a sheet

The cards come from the question bank behind our iPhone app. Before one goes on a page, its answer key is checked against the rule it rests on, usually a section of 29 CFR 1926, the federal construction standards. General-industry rules from 29 CFR 1910 count only where 1926 points to them, as it does for respirators and hazard communication.

Each card is also answered blind, without the key, and the two answers compared. A card where they disagree is set aside, not published. Every option, right or wrong, gets its own note, since the wrong ones are where exam-day mistakes come from.

What stays off this site

A few things are missing on purpose.

  • Real or remembered exam questions. BCSP keeps its items confidential, and we do not collect them.
  • A passing score. BCSP does not publish one for the STSC, so neither do we; the passing score sheet explains how BCSP sets it.
  • Promises about your result. A study site can help you prepare; it cannot tell you how the exam will go.
  • Pay figures from salary websites. Pay numbers here come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics only, labeled by occupation, because BLS does not track STSC holders.

The credential belongs to BCSP

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals writes, delivers and scores the STSC exam. Its certifications are accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) under ISO/IEC 17024 (BCSP accreditation page, as of October 2026). That accreditation covers BCSP's exam. Tailgate Brief is not affiliated with or endorsed by BCSP.
