Sheet 44Exam fact

What happens if you don't pass the STSC?

You can sit the STSC again. Buy a new exam authorization ($185 as of October 2026) and use it six weeks or more after your last attempt, as long as your eligibility window is still open.

Wait before a retake6weeks

Candidates who don't pass may buy a new exam authorization and sit again six weeks after their most recent attempt, while they remain eligible. BCSP allows any number of attempts inside the eligibility period (Complete Guide, as of October 2026).

The first day after

Give it a day. A fail result read off a screen at the test center stings, more so for someone who has run crews for years and knows the work is sound. Then, while the exam is still fresh, write down the topics where you guessed or ran short of time.

That list is where the next six weeks start. BCSP scores the STSC as a whole, so lifting your two weakest domains counts as much as polishing the strong ones; how that works is on the passing score sheet.

Your next six weeks

  1. Check your eligibility end date

It is in My Profile. The retake has to fall inside your one-year window, or inside an extension.

  2. Check what you already paid for

The $325 Exam Bundle includes a second attempt. A single $185 exam does not, so you buy a new exam authorization in My Profile.

  3. Rebuild around the weak topics

Put them first in the STSC study plan and finish with a full timed run.

  4. Book six weeks or more out

The six weeks count from your most recent attempt. Booking goes through Pearson VUE from My Profile, as it did the first time.

Attempts, fees and the eligibility deadline

How many times can you take the STSC?

As many times as you like while eligible, with at least six weeks between attempts (BCSP Complete Guide, as of October 2026).

Is there a separate retake fee?

No. A retake uses a new exam authorization at the regular $185 exam fee, or the second attempt included in the $325 Exam Bundle (BCSP At-A-Glance V.2026.04.01, as of October 2026).

What if my year of eligibility runs out before I pass?

In the last 60 days you can buy a one-time $100 extension that adds a year. Without it, BCSP requires you to reapply as a new candidate and meet the current requirements (as of October 2026).
